When I write, it's usually because I have an experience in mind for the audience. That might be building to some visual effect or an emotional beat. But there's usually a core dramatic element I'm working backwards from. That said, it's still not quite right to say I know the structure or even the ending, I'm mostly trying to justify the main experience and give the audience enough runway to get there with me.
